Berlin International Harp Masterclass

Dear Harpists

 

It is with great pleasure that I announce the 5th edition Berlin International Harp Masterclass in Brandenburg, Berlin!

Due to the high demand I decided to organize the masterclass for 2 weeks!

From 3-17th  of August 2025 (The masterclass will happen in 2 sessions, session 1: 3-10 ; session 2: 10-17)  young harpists from different countries will gather again for one week in beautiful Brandenburg (close to Berlin) to spend one inspiring week with each other and work on their solo repertoire. There will be daily lessons and a final concert in the end of the week where all participants will perform at least one piece.

 

When:

August 3 2024 - August 17 2024

Session 1: 3-10

Session 2: 10-17

 

Where:

Schloss Gollwitz in Brandenburg (www.schlossgollwitz.de)

 

For whom:

Young professionals that are about to study harp and professional harp students.

The focus will be on solo repertoire.

 

Teacher:

What to expect:

•Daily lessons, approximately 40min for each participant every day

• Performance training

• Culture Trip

• Meeting other harpists from all around the world

 

Harp situation:

Salvi Harps provides usually 3 harps for the masterclass, I will bring my own for the lessons and some participants bring their harp. There will be a plan for practice where participants can sign up who are not able to bring a harp. This is free of charge.

If you can bring your harp, it would be great if you can do so!

 

Schedule:

The arrival will be on Sunday afternoon 3rd/10th of August, lessons will be given Monday to Friday.

Short lessons on Saturday and a closing evening concert.
On Sunday the 10th/17th of August 2025 
the masterclass will come to an end.
There will be a possibility to rent bikes for free and explore the beautiful surrounding nature, or take a swim in a lake within a 5 min walk.

 

Language:

The official language of the masterclass is english.

Teaching will be possible in German, english and french

 

Costs:

7 nights in a shared double room + Food (Breakfast, lunch, dinner) and lessons: 950€

7 nights in a single room + Food (Breakfast, lunch, dinner) and lessons: 1100€

 

Travel expenses:

Travel to and from Schloss Gollwitz is at the participants own cost.

Please write in the application email your preferred Session (Session 1 or 2) - I will try to give everyone their preferred session but cannot guarantee it.

 

Deadline for the application and important information concerning the application:

Application opens on December 1st 2024 and 31st of march 2025 is the deadline for the application.
Participants will be notified by begimning of April 2025 if they got a place. A nonrefundable fee of 200€ to secure a place has to be transferred by First of June 2025. If accepted participants have not transferred the fee by then, the place will be given to someone else from the waiting list.
In case the masterclass will not take place due to unforeseen circumstances, the 200€ will be transferred back.
The final decision, whether the masterclass will take place will be made by mid-June.
Participants are expected to transfer the rest of the masterclass fee till June 1st, if an accepted participant has not transferred the fee by then, the place will be given to someone else from the waiting list. If a participant cancels within 2 weeks before the masterclass starts without a medical reason, only 50% of the money will be refunded.

Special Guest in 2025: Prof. Stephen Fitzpatrick

Stephen Fitzpatrick is Professor for Harp at the Mozarteum Salzburg, Principal Harpist of the Deutsche Staatskapelle Berlin and Visiting Professor for Harp at the Royal College of Music in London.
He has freelanced with many world class orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and La Scala, Milan, and was a member of the Bayreuther Festspielorchester from 2007 until 2014.
Stephen is active as a chamber musician in various ensembles which have performed throughout Europe. He is committed to contemporary music and has given critically acclaimed performances of works by living composers. He performs regularly with the Boulez Ensemble, combining chamber music from the classical and romantic period with landmark contemporary music.
He is regularly invited to be a jury member for national and international competitions (Szeged Harp Competition, Slovenia Harp Competition, ARD Harp Competition, Dutch Harp Competition, North London Harp Competition) and orchestral auditions and has given masterclasses in cities such as Amsterdam, Graz, Lausanne, Ljubljana, London (Guildhall School of Music), Malaga, Oslo, Padua, und Stockholm.
